Analyst (UK) 

Complexas works with clients who have operations and investments across emerging and developing markets. The clients comply with the highest levels of ESG and shareholder scrutiny and given the jurisdictions of their operations, they are exposed daily to political, social and operational risks specific to those countries. Complexas is a specialist service provider in the mitigation of risk by reducing uncertainty through information collection and analysis. 

About the Role

As an Analyst you will be based in the UK and member of a small, motivated team in the UK and overseas. The team’s purpose is to fill gaps in knowledge particularly around human groups who influence our Client’s operations, people, assets and reputation. We collect, filter, analyse, curate and present information on behalf of our clients to enable them to reduce threats against these factors. You will be required to quickly assimilate and understand political, social and operational information, working with social data to support our clients’ strategy and senior level decision making. There will be occasional requirements to travel abroad.   

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

  • Analysing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative social data.  

  • Challenging data collection and presentation methods with precision and rigour.  

  • Mapping out and understanding connections between individuals and groups.  

  • Proactively identifying knowledge gaps and information requirements. 

  • Monitoring and analysing political risks to identify and assess threats that may affect our clients, including through social media tools.   

  • Conducting open-source research into individuals, corporations and groups which pose a threat to our clients’ operations, assets, and personnel. 

  • Contributing to analysis and thought leadership relevant to current events in West Africa. 

  • Delivering clear and concise written reports and delivering briefings and presentations both online and in-person. 

  • Communicating effectively with the team to support and enhance the quality of final deliverables. 

  • Maintaining and building our databases. 

  • Using initiative to increase sources of information. 

  • Helping grow existing capabilities and processes within the team. 

  • Being prepared to review other project work on a case-by-case basis.  

About You

You will succeed in this role if you have the following skills and experience:

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree e.g. history, political science, international relations, intelligence analysis, criminal justice, journalism, or related field OR demonstrable verifiable, security, military or intelligence analysis experience.  

  • Fluent French language skills: ability to speak, read and write in a professional context.   

  • Excellent research and analytical ability.  

  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision.   

  • Practical knowledge of open-source intelligence research and threat analysis. 

  • Understanding of network mapping. 

  • Proven ability to accurately draw conclusions by synthesising raw data and information from multiple, unrelated sources. 

  • Keen understanding of social media monitoring techniques. 

  • Willingness to learn and work with a range of software, including some specialised data collection and analysis tools. 

  • Self-starter and able to work under own initiative. 

  • Strong technical skills in using Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel but also including Word, PowerPoint and Teams.  

  • Ability to travel overseas if required.  

  • Fluency in English, including the ability to write clearly, concisely and authoritatively to tight deadlines.  

Desirable

  • Experience using open-source intelligence and forensics software.  

  • Experience using business intelligence and data analysis software, such as Tableau and Arc GIS, to interpret and communicate complex data.   

  • Experience in and/or knowledge of data programming and/or natural language processing.   

  • In-depth country knowledge and experience in West Africa. 

  • Experience or motivation to work in multinational business.  

  • An understanding of ESG delivery in non-OECD countries.  

  • Prior advisory and consultancy experience.   

Salary
and Location

This is a full-time role. This role requires working in the office in London (Zone 1), hybrid working options may be available but full-time remote work will not be possible.

Compensation will be decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on experience. However, we aim to pay competitively.
